Janice Rosario
Janice Rosario is a New York-based contemporary dance choreographer and improvisational dance instructor. A graduate of LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, Rosario is a native of Upper Manhattan and has studied at some of the most elite institutions including Ballet Hispánico, Ballet Academy East, Boston Ballet, and the Alvin Ailey School. She arrived at Hunter to study dance as an undergraduate student, and since receiving her degree, Rosario has been commissioned by and taught at numerous prestigious institutions including the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University BFA Program, the Professional Division at The Alvin Ailey School, the Martha Graham School, Columbia University, Hunter College, and the LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts.
Rosario founded the nonprofit the Good Neighbor Collective Inc. in 2020 to support and empower those in underserved communities through mutual aid and empowerment. Through her work as an artist, educator, and activist, Rosario says she strives to "create spaces where we can see each other past the divides to contribute to making an ever more inclusive community.”
Rosario has created new works for the Alvin Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, Grand Canyon University, Sacred Heart University, W. P. Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama, Drexel University, Bucknell University, Passaic County Technical Institute and Verbs Ballet, and the Battery Dance Festival. In addition to her choreographic works, she is an in-demand teacher at the Alvin Ailey School, Ballet Hispanico, LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, New York Dance Project, Frank Sinatra High School for the Performing Arts, Fort Hamilton High School's Joffrey Dance Academy, Sacred Heart University, Hunter College, Harvard University, High Tech High School, the American Youth Dance Theater, Irvine Valley College, at the Contemporary Dance Festival in Tobago, and the Joy of Motion Dance Center.
